B.E.Mann
has many accomplishments.
Critical acclaim, music awards, special productions, & much
more.
READ THE BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF B.E.MANN BELOW
"In
short, Mann travels through various delivery styles and techniques
on THE ENERGY MAN, but doesn't come across
as anything but professional and solid. B.E.Mann is one of the most
energetic performers our area has to offer. Mann
is incedibly talented. He is credited for all keys, piano, bass,
synth bass, rhythm guitars, percussion,
and drum programming. Mann's best qualities however, is his vocals.
He's got a silky smooth, clean delivery with just
a shade of alluring quality that leads you in. It is clear that
B.E.Mann IS the energy man..."

"
As a singer B.E. Mann commands the microphone to deliver diverse
tones, smooth & mellow but hit the points.
Understandable stories with classic rythems. Worth having in
your collection as it will make you dance
and smile and what else can you ask from a CD. "

"...(B.E.'s)
grouping of songs into the roots rock reggae, vintage and dancehall,
lovers rock
and dub categories shows an intelligible grasp of styles a lot
of 'local' reggae is sadly lacking. My favorite is
'Bring Back The Days' which keeps it simple but still has something
to say. Interestingly Mann is one of the
few singers who is as good in the dj style (as he is singing),
particularly on the aforementioned
song where he affects U-Roy-ish personae to talk about the great
Jamaican artists of yore. "
The Beat Magazine / Chuck Foster vol.23 #6 2004
"
If you are a follower of this fine performer (you'd) know the B.E.Mann
has been doing his best to meld r&b, hip hop,
and reggae styles together - into a sound that he can without a
shadow of a doubt, call his own. (Concerning his live
performance) Mann is electric enought to ignite an entire geriatric
ward....
B.E. IS a great performer with an incredible voice..."
MUSIC'S BOTTOM LIVE MAGAZINE
"
B.E.Mann IS Cleveland's top reggae musician! B.E.Mann is the whole
package. Also known as the "Energy Man" for his
dance-powered live shows. Could be one of Clevelands best kept secrets!
B.E. Mann -- Known for his dance-powered live
shows, B.E. Mann is to reggae what George Clinton is to funk. A
versatile reggae artist who sings as well as plays bass,
keyboards, guitar, and trumpet, Mann is a sensation in cities where
reggae is seen through a kaleidoscope rather than a
microscope. Influenced more by Motown than Marley, Mann's music
is smooth and soulful, not angry or political. His last
album, The Energy Man, is filled with more funky guitar solos and
manic horn arrangements than you'll hear at
a P-Funk party. "
NORTHCOAST SCENE MAGAZINE
"
His singing voice is an amalgam of smooth 80's-early 90's dancehall
crooner Sanchez and the legendary Frankie Paul.
Mann IS a talented arranger/producer..."
BEACON JOURNAL NEWSPAPER
"
It's hard to imagine the cold shores of Lake Erie could produce
reggae that doesn't sound unauthentic,
but B.E.Mann is an exception. "
FREE TIMES MAGAZINE
"
B.E. IS the greatest reggae man in the land. I just totally love
his cds. I listen to them at home, on vacation,
everywhere! This guy is so much fun!..."
FOX8NEWS(Cleveland)
"
B.E.Mann knows how to soothe the soul with light pop and an upbeat
dance rhythm. He takes the original reggae
sound and juices it up to a whole new style I can't help but like."
THE RENEGADE
"
People who have not heard B.E. and enjoy well-crafted pop will consider
this a treat. Mann'ssongs are so hook laden,
listeners will be hard pressed to keep from humming them. These
songs are great vehicles too for Mann's unusually
smooth and expressive voice....His style is original and inviting!!!
"
DIG MAGAZINE
"
Reaching out to the audience is Mann's forte... ceaseless energy,
serenading woman, and dancing with abandon,
it makes for a fun visual counterpart to the bouyant music. B.E.
also soulfully sings his original songs, with a lot of
toasting - in a convincing island dialect...."
THE CANTON REPOSITORY NEWSPAPER
"
B.E.'s blend on music brings a very listenable whole... Emphasis
is on clear sincere vocals...Nice vocal blend!"
THE BEAT MAGAZINE
"The
Energy Man" is a grovin' CD that makes ya want to move, even while
your sitting. The delivery from B.E. Mann
is nothing short of smooth and energetic. A delight to listen to
at any age.
INTERNATIONALLY FRESH
"Continuing
with his love of music and entertaining, the Energy Man keeps in
stroll with his pop, dance and reggae style
that made him one of the most recognizable names in the Northeast
Ohio
music scene. Mann is to reggae as Ricky Martin
is to Latin music. His music screams pop, and everything he does
is accessible to all ages. He is heavy on giving an
entertaining performance and he portrays fun and energy in his music.
Mann is like an unending party. If you are thinking
reggae thoughts of Bob Marley-esqe sound, you won’t find that here.
Mann is more along the lines of Culture Club meets
Shaggy -- and heavy on the '80s electronica."
REVUE MAGAZINE
"Cameo
comes to the islands when Dub-lite basslines, Dancehall toasting,
compressed backing vocals
(a favored recording technique of The Artist) and slick, House grooves
come together. "

B.E.MANN
WAS A FEATURED ARTIST IN A PAST ISSUE OF
" REGGAE NEWS MAGAZINE ", GERMANY'S #1 REGGAE MAGAZINE!
mARCH - mAY 2005 ISSUE
TO ORDER THIS ISSUE VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AT:
www.reggaenewsmagazine.de
Excerpts of the article reads:
RNM: "
B.E.Mann is among one of the greatest Reggae Artist
of the century ever known to reggae music lovers. As a roots
reggae
artist, he is one in a million. As a vintage reggae artist
he brings all
soul to peace and makes them to feel irie. As a loversrock
artist he
makes music the food of love and as a dub artist, his name
will
be written on a plantar of Reggae-Gold ".
" B.E.Mann was influenced by artists like Aswad, Vivian
Jones, Dennis Bovell, Dennis Brown, Jacob Miller,
Sly & Robbie, Sanchez and many UK Reggae artists.Rasta
hardliners are often slow to recognize anyone who
doesn't embrace the outward trappings of the culture, especially
a white guy closer in appearance to George
Michael than Peter Tosh. Having been a fixture in Northeast
Ohio reggae circles since the late '80s, Mann has
often provoked the ire of scene diehards with his non traditional
look and sound - a pastiche of bright pop, light rock,
club beats, over hardcore reggae rhythms. "The reggae
world is fickle," Mann says outside the studios of Akron
radio
station WAPS-FM 91.3, The Summit, where he's hosted a reggae
radio show for the past 13 years. "You get some
people who are ignorant who think it's supposed to be strictly
about dreadlocks, rastaor whatever, but most reggae
artists today or for the last 20 or 25 years haven't sung
about rasta or dreadlocks exclusively. Reggae even
started and first became popular in the early days with a
more pop ideology. Songs with hooks, melodies,
and structure.
You will find a lot of it about love, life, and dancing. It's
actually great that some people want to be protective of the
element of roots and rasta, but that's not the whole scene
of reggae, it really isn't. There are so many different sub
genres of reggae with each artist having their own place in
the scheme of things. Luciano or Morgan Heritage I am not,
but how could people expect me to be? I am myself and that
is what I do best. I have grown to know that I have a specific
part to do in the world of reggae music, and that is what
I do. I bring reggae to usual non reggae listeners. I have
exposed
new fans to a sound that they intinally would have never had
given a chance. Do you realize how many people I have
turned onto reggae and other artists by first introducing
them to my sound? The numbers are countless. " Mann's
music
isn't as deep as it is danceable on some of his releases such
as his release Kaleidoscopes Part 1: The Pop Songs
(for which he wrote, recorded, and produced himself), but
he hits the mark with some of his other titles including his
latest
hardcore reggae release Kaleidoscopes Part 2: The Reggae
Songs. When toasting on the mic Mann sounds
a bit like Uroy mixed with Shaggy, and when singing his voice
is smooth as silk. He often has been compared to a
having a vocal tone somewhat between Sanchez and Frankie Paul.
Critics worldwide have nicknamed him the energy man
for his high energy dance powered live shows.
Since
1987 Mann self-released 22full length albums so far. He has
performed 2,200 plus live shows and counting,
co-actor on two kids TV shows in the USA, host/programmer
of Akrons only long time running reggae radio program
Reggae Rhythms from around the world, and he writes
jingles for commercials and t.v.shows. Recently Mann was included
on the first ever international reggae cd tribute to Peter
Tosh (Put My Faith In Jah featured the original
track Irie by
B.E. Mann alongside legendary artists Luciano, Bob Andy, Peter
Tosh, Joe Higgs, Toots & The Maytals, Edi Fitzroy,
Mikey General and others. Available at ptosh.com). His breakthrough
disc 1999's Energy Man, sold over 50,000 copies
worldwide, and he's moved another 50,000 records since then.
He's had six number one hits in eight different
European countries. He even has his own merchandise line which
hawks everything from lunch boxes to thongs. As a
community activist
Mann
often visits schools to speak about life as a musician, and
about fighting racism. A burgeoning
reggae singer Mann began winning local talent contests in
middle school while learning how to play trumpet, guitar,
keys,
and bass. Beginning in '91 he fronted The King ov Heartz
world reggae band before getting a break in '95, when
he was
asked to front for Island recording artists Identity. "My
whole angle is to open reggae up to new people," Mann
says.
"As the years went on, I made a conscious decision that
I wouldn't try and be a Bob Marley rip-off, I wouldn't try
and be
something I wasn't. I would do the music that I loved, but
I would be myself in it. I felt that as long as some of the
hardcore
people knew that I was sincere - that they understood that
I wasn't trying to rip off what they were doing,I could be
accepted.
In my entire adult years reggae music has been my life. I
eat, breathe, sleep reggae. Thats how it has turned out and
I am
fortunate and greatful. I am a conscious, positive reggae
artist. Just because somebody has dreads that doesn't mean
a
thing because there are so many vultures and wolves among
the sheep.
Albert Griffiths of the Gladiators said it best years ago,
looks is deceiving".
